Chamomile Tea
LA LEONESA CHAMOMILE is the finest rendition
of this traditional household favorite. Our infusion is special
because only the heart of the chamomile flower is used in the tea
formulation. It is 100% pure because it is all heart, without the
stems or leaves that give other chamomile teas a bitter flavor.
Now, it is simple to enjoy what many consider the European infusion
of choice.
The difference is clear.

How
does Chamomile work?
Today, scientific research has identified that
the principal components of chamomile are its essential oils and
its polyphenolic compounds. Key constituents include volatile oil
(proazulenes, farnesine, alpha-bisabolol, and spiroether), flavinoids
(anthemidin, luteolin, rutin), bitter glycosides (anthemic acid),
coumarins, and tannins. Great taste is not the only benefit we reap
from using only the heart. Only the heart of the flower contains
the volatile oil chamazulene, the active ingredient that has made
chamomile the most popular traditional remedy, prized for its sedative
and digestive effects.
How much should I use?
La Leonesa Chamomile tea is naturally sweet, and
mild enough to drink at any time of the day as many times as you
like. It is especially soothing when prepared with a teaspoon of
honey.

History and Folklore
Chamomile (Chamomilla
recutita syn. Matricaria recutita
(Compositae)) has been used as an herbal remedy
for centuries. Chamomile grows wild in Europe and west Asia, and
related species are found in North America and Africa. The Romans,
the Greeks, the Egyptians and Arabs used it for everything from
a headache and indigestion to a sleep aid or relaxing tea reminiscent
of apples. Its use has continued throughout time in Europe and later
in America. Its flowers help to ease indigestion, nervousness, depressions
and headaches, being ideal for emotion related problems such as
peptic ulcers, colitis, spastic colon and nervous indigestion. Chamomile's
essential oil has anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and anti-microbial
activity. It is an excellent herb for many digestive disorders and
for nervous tension and irritability. Externally, it is used for
sore skin and eczema.
La Leonesa Chamomile
is 100% Chamomile flower, all heart, pure and simple.
La Leonesa Chamomile is cold
sterilized and vacuum packed as soon as it is harvested. We use
no additives in our products; so all you get is a complete tea made
with flowers specially selected for their quality. Our chamomile
is collected in the highest regions of the Northern Spanish mountains
in the province of Leon. This splendid place has the most ideal
conditions for chamomile to produce high concentrations of essential
oils, chamazulene and flavinoides, what make this infusion an excellent
digestive tonic, and antispasmodic.
