Tea (Melissa)
LA LEONESA RELAXUL is the result of years
of research of plants that safely and effectively calm and relax.
This natural tranquilizer helps to relieve stress, worry, insomnia,
and the nervousness so common in todays world. Relaxul contains
medicinal plants like Melissa officinalis
(lemon balm, Lamiaceae) that are rich in the essential oils known
to be effective as an antispasmodic and sedative.
How
does Melissa work?
The Melissa herb contains volatile oils (citral,
caryophyllene oxide, linalool, and citronellal), flavinoids, triterpenes,
polyphenols, and tannins. Research has shown that the volatile oil,
in particular citral and citronellal, calm the nervous system. Melissa
is strongly antispasmodic. Also, the polyphenols in Melissa have
antiviral properties. Research suggests that Melissa has anti-thyroid
effects and the herb has been given to some with an over active
thyroid.
How much should I use?
We suggest using two tea bags per cup of boiling
water. Drink it after dinner or just when you feel like relaxing.
We advise pregnant women consult their doctor before using any herbal
products.

History and Folklore
Native of southern Europe, western Asia, and northern
Africa.. Taken regularly, it was believed to encourage longevity.
Other traditional uses include healing wounds, relieving palpitations
and relaxing the heart, and treating toothaches. It is also popular
as a "first-aid" remedy for cuts, insect stings, and is
good for fevers.
Melissa has been traditionally used
to "lift the spirits"
The warm infusion of the leaves has diaphoretic
effects, and when added to bath water is also said to promote
the onset of menstruation. Use the crushed leaves as a poultice
for sores, tumors, milk-knots, and insect bites. Balm is also
used in herb pillows because of its agreeable odor. When bruised,
the whole plant smells like lemon. It is used to induce copious
perspiration.
